MEC001-005-011-025-300501- RIVER FLOOD STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAY, ME 140 PM EDT FRI APR 29 2005  ...FLOOD WARNINGS REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE PRESUMPSCOT...ANDROSCOGGIN AND KENNEBEC RIVERS IN WESTERN MAINE...  FOR THE PRESUMPSCOT RIVER AT WESTBROOK, MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURING. AT 1 PM FRIDAY...THE RIVER IN WESTBROOK WAS AT 16.4 FEET AND FALLING. THE RIVER WILL CONTINUE TO FALL SLOWLY THIS AFTERNOON AND DROP BELOW FLOOD STAGE OVERNIGHT.  FOR THE ANDROSCOGGIN RIVER NEAR AUBURN, MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURING. AT NOON TODAY..THE STAGE WAS 13.8 FEET AND STEADY. THE RIVER LEVEL AT AUBURN WILL BEGIN TO FALL THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE TO FALL OVERNIGHT. THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE BY 5AM SATURADY.  FOR THE KENNEBEC RIVER AT SKOWHEGAN, MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURING. AT 1 PM  FRIDAY THE FLOW WAS 61244 CUBIC FEET PER SECOND AND FALLING. THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO FALL TO ABOUT 45000 CFS BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON...BUT WILL REMAIN ABOVE THE 35000 CFS FLOOD FLOW.  FOR THE KENNEBEC RIVER AT NORTH SIDNEY, MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURING. AT 1 PM FRIDAY...THE STAGE AT NORTH SIDNEY MEASURED 21.2 FEET AND FALLING. THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO FALL TO ABOUT 18.5 FEET BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON...BUT WILL REMAIN ABOVE THE 17 FOOT FLOOD STAGE.  FOR THE KENNEBEC RIVER AT AUGUSTA, MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURING. AT 1 PM FRIDAY...THE STAGE WAS AT 17.9 FEET AND FALLING.  THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO FALL THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON REACHING A STAGE OF 15.0 FEET DURING THE AFTERNOON...BUT REMAINING ABOVE THE 13 FOOT FLOOD STAGE.   MANY SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS CONTINUE TO FLOW NEAR BANKFUL THROUGHOUT WESTERN AND CENTRAL MAINE. KNOX AND WALDO COUNTIES HAVE BEEN ESPECIALLY HARD HIT. RAINFALL TOTALS IN THESE COUNTIES WERE ON THE ORDER OF 6 TO 8 INCHES. MANY ROADS WERE EITHER FLOODED OR WASHED OUT DUE TO INTENSE RUNOFF. SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS WILL SLOWLY RECEDE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND OVERNIGHT.  PEOPLE WHO HAVE TO TRAVEL TODAY SHOULD BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL AND WATCH OUT FOR CLOSED OR FLOODED ROADS. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND A BARRIER IF A ROAD IS CLOSED. DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH A FLOODED ROADWAY ESPECIALLY IF THE WATER IS MOVING. TURN AROUND AND FIND ANOTHER ROUTE.  STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO...OR YOUR LOCAL NEWS STATION...FOR ADDITIONAL FLOOD STATEMENTS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.  $$ JENSENIUS        

MEC003-009-019-021-025-029-292000-  FLOOD STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CARIBOU ME 1030 AM EDT FRI APR 29 2005  ...THE FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE AREAS OF AROOSTOOK... SOMERSET...PISCATAQUIS...PENOBSCOT...WASHINGTON AND HANCOCK...  HEAVY RAINS HAVE CAUSED FLOODING IN AROOSTOOK...PENOBSCOT...NORTHERN SOMERSET...PISCATAQUIS AND HANCOCK COUNTIES.  RAINFALL AMOUNTS HAVE RANGED FROM FOUR INCHES IN COASTAL HANCOCK COUNTY TO TWO INCHES IN THE NORTH.  LOWLAND FLOODING CONTINUES IN ALL AREAS..AND NUMEROUS ROAD CLOSURES HAVE BEEN REPORTED.  THIS HEAVY RAIN HAS FLOODED MANY SMALLER STREAMS...BROOKS AND DRAINAGES...AND RISES ON MANY OF THE MAINSTEM RIVERS WILL CONTINUE INTO THE WEEKEND.  OF PARTICULAR CONCERN ARE THE PISCATAQUIS...PENOBSCOT AND FISH RIVERS.  ON THE PISCATAQUIS RIVER NEAR DOVER-FOXCROFT...THE STREAM GAUGE AT LOWE'S BRIDGE WAS AT 9.9 FEET AND FALLING AT 10:00 AM.  GAUGES UPSTREAM OF DOVER-FOXCROFT WERE RECEDING AS WELL...BUT RIVER RISES WERE STILL BEING REPORTED DOWNSTREAM...TOWARDS THE CONFLUANCE OF THE PISCATAQUIS AND PENOBSCOT.  ON THE EAST BRANCH OF THE PENOBSCOT RIVER NEAR GRINDSTONE...THE RIVER LEVEL WAS AT 13.5 FEET AND CLIMBING.  MINOR FLOODING WAS REPORTED...AND A PORTION OF ROUTE 11 WAS BEING AFFECTED BY THE FLOOD WATER.  ON THE PENOBSCOT RIVER AT WEST ENFIELD...THE RIVER HAD EXCEEDED FLOOD STAGE OF 18.O FEET.  THE CURRENT STAGE WAS 18.8 FEET AT 10:00 AM. THIS RIVER IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN ABOVE FLOOD STAGE FRIDAY.  IT WILL REACH A CREST OF 19.4 FEET AT 8:00 PM THIS EVENING AND FALL BACK BELOW FLOOD STAGE AT 2:00 AM SATURDAY MORNING.  ON THE PENOBSCOT RIVER AT EDDINGTON...THE STAGE WAS AT 16 FEET AT 10:00 AM.  A FORECAST CREST OF 17.9 FEET IS EXPECTED AFTER 2:00 AM SATURDAY MORNING.  THIS IS JUST BELOW THE FLOOD STAGE OF 18 FEET.  THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION MOVED INTO FAR NORTHERN MAINE EARLY THIS MORNING...AND FELL AS SNOW IN THE FAR NORTH.  AN ADDITIONAL HALF INCH OF PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TODAY...BUT THE COOLER TEMPERATURES HAVE SLOWED RUNOFF INTO AREA WATERWAYS.  THE FISH RIVER AT FORT KENT HAS PEAKED AT 10.6 FEET AND WILL SLOWLY BEGIN TO RECEDE TODAY.  DO NOT DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY...TURN AROUND...DON'T DROWN!  $$  MAT
