...HEAT INDICES BETWEEN 100 AND 105 DEGREES EXPECTED FOR SEVERAL
HOURS DURING SATURDAY AFTERNOON...
...HEAT WAVE POSSIBLE FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND...

A STRONG BERMUDA HIGH PRESSURE AREA WILL BRING A HOT AND HUMID
AIRMASS INTO THE REGION FOR THIS WEEKEND. UNDER MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES
HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RISE INTO THE MID TO UPPER 90S SATURDAY...
WITH A FEW LOCATIONS APPROACHING THE 100 DEGREE MARK. ON
SUNDAY...HIGHS WILL LIKELY AGAIN RISE INTO THE LOWER 90S ACROSS THE
INTERIOR AWAY FROM THE EAST AND SOUTH COASTS. THE WORST DAY FOR THE
HEAT AND HUMIDITY WILL BE SATURDAY WHEN SURFACE DEWPOINTS ARE
EXPECTED TO CLIMB INTO THE UPPER 60S...TO AROUND 70 DEGREES. THE
COMBINATION OF THE INTENSE HEAT AND HUMIDITY SATURDAY AFTERNOON WILL
RESULT IN HEAT INDEX VALUES OF AROUND 100 TO 105 DEGREES.

THE WARM AND HUMID AIR MASS WILL PREVENT TEMPERATURES FROM COOLING
ALL THAT MUCH SATURDAY NIGHT. TEMPERATURES IN BOSTON WILL LIKELY NOT
DROP BELOW 75 DEGREES SATURDAY NIGHT...AND MOST OTHER URBAN AREAS IN
SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND WILL REMAIN ABOVE 70 DEGREES ALL NIGHT.

SOME SECTIONS OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND COULD EXPERIENCE ITS FIRST HEAT
WAVE OF THE SEASON...STARTING THIS WEEKEND AND CONTINUING INTO NEXT
WEEK. A HEAT WAVE IS DEFINED AS 3 OR MORE DAYS OF TEMPERATURES THAT
EQUAL OR EXCEED 90 DEGREES. THE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE LOCATIONS FOR THE
HEAT WAVE ARE THE CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY AND NORTHERN RHODE
ISLAND...AS WELL AS ADJACENT LOCATIONS IN MASSACHUSETTS SOUTH OF THE
MASS PIKE.

IF YOU PLAN TO BE OUTSIDE DURING THIS WEEKEND...ESPECIALLY
SATURDAY...AVOID PROLONGED EXPOSURE OR STRENUOUS PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.
YOUR BODY CAN LOSE UP TO A GALLON OF WATER AN HOUR THROUGH
PERSPIRATION. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS TO AVOID DEHYDRATION. ALCOHOLIC
AND CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES CAN INCREASE THE RATE OF WATER LOSS IN YOUR
BODY...INCREASING THE RISK OF HEAT EXHAUSTION OR STROKE. ALSO...UNDER
THE SUMMER TIME RAYS OF SUN...REMEMBER TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN WITH
SUNBLOCK.
