316 PM EDT THU JUN 16 2005

..THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON VT HAS ISSUED A FLASH
FLOOD WATCH FOR ESSEX COUNTY IN NEW YORK STATE AND RUTLAND AND
ADDISON COUNTIES IN VERMONT EFFECTIVE UNTIL 5 PM EDT ON FRIDAY.
THE WATCH INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...

IN VERMONT...
ADDISON AND RUTLAND.

IN NEW YORK...
ESSEX.

SOME CITIES IN THE WATCH INCLUDE BRANDON...DANBY...FAIR HAVEN...
MIDDLEBURY...MORIAH...NEWCOMB...PORT HENRY...RUTLAND...VERGENNES AND
WILLSBORO.

A STORM SYSTEM WILL BE MOVING SLOWLY ACROSS OUR REGION FROM THE WEST
THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT. HEAVIER SHOWERS WILL BE ROTATING UP ACROSS MUCH
OF NORTHERN NEW YORK STATE AND VERMONT TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY.
RECENT HEAVY RAIN...UP TO ONE AND A HALF TO THREE INCHES...HAS
AFFECTED PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN ESSEX COUNTY NEW YORK AND ADDISON AND
RUTLAND COUNTIES IN VERMONT.

LESS THAN TWO INCHES OF ADDITIONAL RAINFALL IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE
REGION THROUGH EARLY ON FRIDAY NIGHT. HOWEVER...ANOTHER ONE TO TWO
INCHES OF RAIN IN THE WATCH AREA MAY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF LOW
LYING AREAS.

PEOPLE IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE AWARE OF THE
POSSIBILITY FOR HEAVY RAINFALL. AVOID LOW LYING AREAS...AND BE
CAREFUL WHEN APPROACHING HIGHWAY DIPS AND UNDERPASSES.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED...ACT
QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN
AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY. OBEY ALL ROAD CLOSURE SIGNS.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO...COMMERCIAL MEDIA OR YOUR CABLE
TELEVISION PROVIDER FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
