..STRONG THUNDERSTORMS REMAIN POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON OVER THE
CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY...

A COLD FRONT RACING EAST FROM THE GREAT LAKES WILL RUN INTO A
WARM...HUMID AND UNSTABLE AIR AIRMASS ACROSS NEW YORK STATE AND
WESTERN NEW ENGLAND. THIS WILL CAUSE THUNDERSTORMS TO FORM
THIS AFTERNOON AND PROPAGATE EAST INTO WESTERN NEW ENGLAND.

COMPLICATING THE FORECAST IS A COOL AND STABLE AIRMASS THIS
MORNING COVERING MUCH SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. IT APPEARS A SLOW MOVING
AREA OF LOW PRESSURE SOUTH OF MARTHAS VINEYARD AND NANTUCKET THIS
MORNING...WILL KEEP MOST OF THE REGION UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A COOL
AND STABLE ONSHORE WIND FLOW. THIS WILL LIKELY WEAKEN THUNDERSTORMS
AS THEY EXIT NEW YORK STATE AND ENTER WESTERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN
NEW ENGLAND. HOWEVER...LOW CLOUDS AND FOG MAY ERODE AND GIVE WAY TO
SUNSHINE ACROSS THE CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON. THIS
WOULD SET THE STAGE FOR STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TO
MAINTAIN THEIR INTENSITY INTO THE CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY THIS
AFTERNOON.

THE AREA OF GREATEST RISK OF OBSERVING SEVERE WEATHER THIS AFTERNOON
WOULD BE THE CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY. IN CONNECTICUT THIS
INCLUDES THE CITY OF HARTFORD.

IN MASSACHUSETTS THIS INCLUDES...NORTHAMPTON AND ALL POINTS WEST OF
THE QUABBIN RESERVOIR.

IN SOUTHWEST NEW HAMPSHIRE...THIS INCLUDES CHESHIRE COUNTY AND THE
TOWNS OF WALPOLE...CHESTERFIELD AND WINCHESTER.

THE STRONGER STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WIND...
LARGE HAIL...AND OR FLASH FLOODING FROM HEAVY DOWNPOURS. THE
THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOST LIKELY OCCUR BETWEEN 1 PM AND 8 PM.

PEOPLE LIVING OR TRAVELING THROUGH WESTERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN NEW
ENGLAND SHOULD STAY ALERT TO CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS. THESE
PEOPLE SHOULD ALSO BE PREPARED FOR ANY WATCHES AND WARNINGS THAT MAY
BE ISSUED LATER TODAY.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND OTHER LOCAL MEDIA FOR FURTHER
DETAILS OR UPDATES.
